Promising Oakland Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson appears close to rejoining the lineup after suffering a hand injury earlier this week. Wilson took batting practice on Friday for the first time since being hit on the left hand by a pitch during Tuesday’s game against Atlanta.
“He looked good,” said A’s manager Mark Kotsay before Friday’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. “There was some thought to make his way into the lineup today, but in talking to him last night, Jacob wasn’t real confident about playing. I think he's more confident now that we've gone on the field.”
Kotsay suggested that Wilson could be available off the bench Friday, with a likely return to the starting lineup sometime over the weekend. Barring any setbacks, Wilson is also expected to participate in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday in Atlanta.
