At just 19 years old, Barron Trump is already making headlines for something unrelated to politics or business — his towering height. Standing at an impressive 6 feet 7 inches, the youngest son of former U.S. President Donald Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump continues to surprise the public with his physical presence.
While many have speculated about his diet, genetics, and fitness routine, former President Donald Trump recently shed light on what he believes contributed most to Barron’s vertical growth.
In a candid conversation with The Telegraph, Trump credited Barron's remarkable height to his late grandmother, Amalija Knavs, Melania’s mother, who passed away in January 2024 at the age of 78.
"Boy, did she take care of Barron," Trump said. "That’s how he got so tall — he only ate her food."
According to Melania, her mother had a deep passion for cooking, often preparing traditional meals seasoned with herbs from her own garden. Melania once remarked that her mother could "transport every dish to new heights," and that she passed along many of her secret recipes.
Despite attending Oxbridge Academy, a Florida-based school known for its diverse cafeteria offerings — from American to Asian and Indian cuisine — Barron reportedly skipped lunch altogether, choosing instead to wait until he returned home to eat.
"Barron always went to the lunchroom to sit with his friends, but he never ate any lunch," one of his classmates told the Daily Mail. "It was a little unusual. He just said he would wait to eat at home."
This unusual eating pattern, combined with home-cooked meals from his grandmother, may have played a role in his growth — or at least in the mythology now surrounding it.
Now reportedly attending New York University, Barron maintains a low profile, rarely seen on campus and preferring solitude. According to Kaya Walker, the former president of the NYU College Republicans, Barron is seen as something of a mystery.
"He’s sort of like an oddity on campus. He goes to class, he goes home," she said in a conversation with Vanity Fair.
One professor reportedly commented that Barron “doesn’t really belong here”, suggesting he may be having a challenging transition to college life.
While height is largely genetic, the Trump family — with Donald himself standing at 6’3” — does have tall genes. Still, the story of Barron’s love for his grandmother’s cooking and his avoidance of school lunches paints a humanizing portrait of the young Trump — one who seems to prefer family, home, and tradition over flash and fuss.
As the public continues to watch Barron Trump grow — both literally and figuratively — one thing remains clear: he’s full of surprises.
